Sudoku Marty’s Astonishing New Puzzle
*** TODAY’S PUZZLE ***

Rules:
Quadswallop
by Marty Sears
CHAOS CONSTRUCTION:
Divide the grid into 8 regions each containing 8 orthogonally connected cells, and fill the grid with the digits 1-8 so that digits don’t repeat in a row, column or region.
DOUBLERS:
Each row, column and region contains exactly one doubler cell. The value of a doubler cell is double its digit. Each doubler cell contains a different digit.
QUADSWALLOP:
Each digit 1-8 is represented by a different letter of the alphabet, to be determined. In each grey quad circle, 4 of the letters correspond to the digits (not values) in the surrounding 4 cells, but there is also one lying letter which does not correspond to any of the surrounding digits. The purple and green circles on the right can be used to keep track of letters in the grid, and their corresponding digits.
PURPLE X: Values separated by a small purple X sum to 10, and are in the same region.
The two ends of a grey, red or blue line always lie in different regions. Red and blue lines have an additional rule:
PARITY LINES (RED):
Two adjacent cells along a red line contain one even value and one odd value.
REGION SUM LINES (BLUE):
Region borders divide blue lines into segments which each have the same total value.

I was able to legitimately solve this without using any chaos construction. It is possible to deduce that the BO letters are a 3-7 pair using the purple x clues in combination with the doubler rules.
My dad works at Nova Southeastern University in Florida, that's NSU
I hate these puzzles where the rule set is a chapter form a lord of the rings novel. It just makes the solve so boring. Itโs almost impossible to not solve it, as the rule set obliterates ketk
The easy way to solve for UES is green is to realize all their surrounding digits are already in green.
I managed to deduce all the digits without getting any of the regions
Having already solved the puzzle, it was painful to watch Simon go through 8 layers of logic from 1:14:10 to 1:18:59 to determine that B was 7. After determining that the R in r5c5 was natural and connected by an x to U, you can deduce that it can't be 7, thus leaving B as the only option for 7. All of that being said, Simon's solve was pretty similar to mine, so I feel like I'm finally starting to close the gap even though he's usually miles ahead of me.
27:51 the part of the puzzle where Simon has put in all the letters but no numbers, what a first wave to a video that's 3 times as long!
58:48 the part of the puzzle where Simon has marked all the regions, and we are now two thirds of the way through, whoo, a 90 minute staged puzzled, in three segments, it's so slick.
1:19:41 he's got the numbers, it's all about placing the doublers now and closing it out, will he look at the missing letters?
It becomes much easier if you first do the doublers, star battle style, once you have regions done.
50m42s. Very cute. I groaned when I saw what was going on with the diagonal
Great typing skills. Imagine if Simon was a secretary.
Dyeter zzfssigr,

GORGEOUS!!!!!
Loved the moment of going "wait…there are too many letters".
Marty is a lunatic and we are so lucky to have him. <3
Wow! I must say, Marty is a real genius! This is absolutely brilliant!
"This is like an aide mรฉmoire".. I see what you did there Simon…
Great puzzle, your 3 out of 5 for difficulty got me tempted. I figured out all the letters and the configuration of the regions, but didn't get past the Doublers, or what digit went where.
Like I thought I had a number combination, but then the bottom left corner region sum line couldn't get filled, no matter what doubler you threw at it.
I can still see my pencil marks and they are mostly wrong, so no three in the corner indeed. Instead I'll put my brain in a corner, naughty brain, timeout for you.
23:12 for me. Omg, what an absolutely incredible puzzle. How Marty manages to set things like this is completely beyond me. Three different layers to the solve, each fantastic on their own yet working perfectly together. What a masterpiece!
I like it a lot. Did it in 60 minutes. Did all 3 stages separately, region drawing, doublers placing, and deletterification. They were all sort of possible to logically recover in sequence. Very very nice, especially the anagram input.
Love that this is basically 3 puzzles in 1: first you get the letters, then the regions, and finally the digits.
Marty, please! Simon has enough difficulty typing when it's only the numbers, have some pity. Excellent puzzle :)
