Secrets of ancient Pompeii revealed in newly discovered paintings | BBC News
Archaeologists working in Pompeii have unearthed a series of rare, almost life-size paintings known as frescoes.
The paintings depict Dionysus – the god of wine-making – and the dig has also uncovered 50 rooms in the ancient Roman city.
Pompeii was buried in an eruption from Mount Vesuvius in AD79.

The italian antiquities department should make sure all tourists (ESPECIALLY CHINESE) won't be able to come near and touch these paintings and other ancient artifacts in Pompeii and elsewhere in Italy.
This is big. An other cult room found. Holy moly.
So many gods, they canโt all be true. Fame is godlike and re-writing history was common with an enslaved civilization.
Whats Africa ever built or created? Oops, F. A
IMO…the most significant painting in Pompeii……is the painting of a chicken in a 2,000 year old fast food restaurant in Pompeii.
Chicken were domesticated in Thailand about 10,000 years ago. by trade they moved to India….Egypt…the middle east….and Italy in about 200 bc…..during the Roman Empire they moved to western Europe.
So. a near flightless Chicken from Thailand is painted in a fast food shop in Pompeii 2,000 years ago.
bbc went there for treasure
I had the unique experience of touring the Pompeii exhibit on the anniversary of the explosive eruption.
It was 19 centuries, to the minute.

My family are from Italy & I have visited Pompei 3 times. This absolutely an amazing findโค
AMAZING!!!!!

Pompei teaches the modern people that all cultures will eventually perish.
What I think is cool is that with the background colors and the hints of motion in the images, if you remember that as a dark room lit by fire, the walls would appear like mini-movies.
BBC, no one thought to do a soundcheck before the interview? The acoustics of that room were terrible.
Another Grave they can't leave alone
The style, but not the subject, of the artwork reminds me a bit of Michaelangelo's Sistine Chapel.
Why she is red ?
This is better than the history of Jesus, look at all that amazing artwork, it's incredible ๐
With its fluted temple-like columns and painted wall scenes of the gods, that dining area inverts the natural order. Humans looking out of the temple-like area upon the Bacchic revels!
Incredible.
Pompeii keeps whispering secrets from the ash, and this time, itโs a bathhouse, opulent, indulgent, dripping in frescoes that freeze a world of pleasure, power, and ritual mid-breath. A place where gods were honored, bodies were worshipped, and the line between myth and reality blurred like steam on marble. And yet, do we really think the true mysteries are just in the art? Or do they live in the rituals, the offerings, the way people understood ecstasy, devotion, and fate? Iโve walked these thoughts in my own way, in the pages of my book. If Pompeiiโs ghosts intrigue you, you might want to step into this world too..

People are actively trying to keep these pagan cultures alive. Its like they want the modern world buried alongside it.๐
This is such an exciting news…keep it going guys. I wish if I could visit Pompeii one day
How about putting the red banner in front of all the art you want us to see. Banners always detract from news.

It is amazing that the wall/paintings / paint did not disintegrate with this heat. What a beautiful find and colors are still good.
My sincere thanks for sharing it.๐๐ผ
Everywere the Greek Civilization.
For that reason the "Cristians" of the West left the Kostabtinopolis in the hand of the Barbarians Tyrkey!
Not o ly that.
But the hipokrites of the West gave the Ciprus to turkey in 1974!
Shame on the fashist.
I've always wondered why news like this doesn't appeal to the masses. This is a groundbreaking discoveryโit's the story of humanity itself. Yet, if the news were about Taylor Swift, everyone would lose their minds.
The newly discovered room in Pompeii, filled with remarkably well-preserved paintings, offers an incredible glimpse into the past. The level of detail and preservation is astonishing, almost as if time itself had stood still. Archaeologists believe the artwork may provide new insights into daily life, mythology, or even previously unknown aspects of Roman culture.
