The โPaTS-Wheelโ uses about the same amount of energy and produces a similar amount of vibration on flat ground as a regular wheel of the same size.
During testing it successfully climbed steps that were about 70% of its diameter every time, while a regular wheel could only manage steps about 25% of its diameter, and a wheel-leg hybrid could handle about 61%.
Designed by researchers at The Imperial College London, the PaTS-Wheel combines the energy efficiency and smooth ride of wheels with the ability to climb obstacles like legged robots, all without needing any sensors, motors, or controllers. ๐ก
