It should not be up to greedy corporations to meddle in the creation of movies with such a fan base. 20th Century Fox and Alien3 are the epitomy of how to do it wrong. Having said that I am still okay with the 3rd movies apart from the fact that they should never have killed off Hicks and Newt or even Clemens for that matter. The greater trouble is waiting on the horizon though. Disney is reminding me more and more of Weyland Yutani. They care little for the desires of fans or their low pay employees. They care about achieving the monopol of drems and all the Billions of dollars that come with it. As for this cut, I love the darker tone and am eager to watch this version. This cut demonstrates why it should be fans who have the say on how the story continues. Fans are not in it for the money, they are the reason these movies are still being made. Oh btw. Thanks to the cut scene in the slaughterhouse I noticed all the other skinned animals hung up to bleed out including a cat. This is also one of the reasons why I watch such movies over and over, b ut mainly because I simply adore them. I have a recommendation for you, one of my favourite movies by the name of "Octalus", sorry that was the German name, the original title is "Deep Rising". You will most likely have seen it, but if not then please do so.
I remember watching Alien 3 Assembly cut and loving it. The main reason people don't like Alien 3 is because it's not like Aliens. That makes no sense since Aliens is completely different from the first Alien movie. It makes perfect sense for Alien 3 to take a different direction.
Alien 3 has always been my absolute favorite out of all the Alien movies. The one thing I have never and still don't like, is that a dog was the host. I prefer the ox.
It would be interesting to hear what Fincher thinks of this cut. Then again he may legally not be allowed to talk about fan-edits or restorations depending on a number of things, and in turn him talking about it may force Fox/Disney to take legal action against the cut if the director of said project openly talking about it means they can no longer deny knowing about it (which they absolutely do, let's not kid ourselves here). Fan-edits always seem like a massive legal gray area regardless of the medium. There's also the fact that he doesn't want to talk about the movie at all.
Why hasn't Fincher made the definitive cut of this movie and approved all the changes? I know he had a challenging time with it, but after all these years, it would be awesome if he gave us his version. I am SURE that 20th Century Fox would rush to the idea.
I really loved their color correction and lighting fixes on the Xenomorph. One minor complaint from me is the close-up shots on the Weyland-Yutani personnel and Bishop II during Ripley's final seconds before dying with the Queen Chest-Buster. I do feel like it removes us from the moment a bit.
Clearly I have different opinion. First the ox works for me much more. They are being worked with in the beginning of the film. And the ending without the queen makes Ripley much stronger, as she jumped into furnace herself, not forced by already moving queen inside her.
Not sure how folks here don't see what 3 does to 2. Why do I care what happens in 2 after seeing 3? It renders everything that happens in 2 meaningless. It sucks all the tension and drama out of the entire second half of 2. It's horrible storytelling/screenwriting. Have your opinion about how it's just a tragedy form of storytelling, but in the context of 2, it's objectively bad storytelling. It is NOT canon for me. Story ends at Aliens.
I’m just glad to hear that someone else actually likes this movie. I’ve always thought it was great and wrapped up Ripley’s story really well, but loads of people just brush it off as a bad third instalment.
blah blah blah blah. This garbage isn't a "classic" and never will be, there's a reason David disowned it completely. . . ironically. . .the vfx updates are top notch, but these guys are just trying (keyword trying) to polish a turd.
I just fixed this movie with an edit and I now find this channel. haha.
I fixed the movie by turning it into a prison escape flick for either the humans or the alien. No alien reveal until like 47 min into the movie. Flows much better now.
I still can not get out of admiration for this production, here everything agrees music, editing cinematography, special effects, direction and script which are at a high level, finally David Fincher , the name speaks for itself, by the way I myself create independent cinema in the style of arthouse in a post-apocalyptic climate, very independent inspired by just such productions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxEaLPKzfzA&ab_channel=LethargusFilm
As a die hard Alien franchise fan, as are many here, are we going to see a physical disc copy released to those who wish to purchase? I own the Blu-ray version and would love to see and own this labour of love.
It’s kind of disingenuous to say that Goldenthal reused the same score for Batman. He didn’t. It’s a different score. The Batman score may have elements that sound similar, but welcome to the mark of a movie composer. Danny Elfman and James Horner have done this too. John Williams has even done similar sounding stuff. It doesn’t mean they copy themselves, it just means it’s within their style – kind of like a signature (whether it’s “good” or “bad” is subjective). But they aren’t copies of the same score. Like, Goldenthal didn’t just hit play on his Alien 3 soundtrack for the Batman scene.
Everything which you say about this new version of this film sounds great! It now seems like the only, or best version currently that I would choice over any other versions. I always thought though, that the film would work so much better with one alien than Two! That way it could focus more of the our attention between Ripley and the Prisoners. Allowing that that tension to build. In a way distracting us away from the real threat of the alien creature. Which that it self is allowed to develop in a mysterious unfolding way, as it shown already in the original film. If they edited a version like that. They would only have to create an end scene for Ripley, were now she could survive! It might make for a better more positive or hopeful ending, to what was a bleak film?! 🤔
The Chaos Editions of Prometheus and Covenant are also exceptional. Each film 40 minutes longer and restored effects from the deleted scenes
I loved it
You can cut and recut this dreck, re-assemble it, upscale it to fake 8k resolution and guess what? – it remains DRECK

I think ALIEN 3 is just as good as the prequels. Its an amazing movie.
I strongly prefer the assembly cut's Bambi Burster over the theatrical version's impossible-seeming dog scene in the theatrical cut.
That said, it seems like this version is worth watching for the improvements to the xenomorph effects alone. That's some amazing dedication.
All that and it’s still a bad movie. All versions. All cuts. Bad. Not a good alien movie. The first two are classics! Just enjoy those

Wanker. Just pirate the movie like the rest of us.

So it’s just a lot darker graded, well we have got to keep up with the modern trend of making every move too dark.
I just fixed this movie with an edit and I now find this channel. haha.

Good movie lacks some technical and sci fi elements you see in the rest of the films but it’s all good.

My favorite Alien movie and by far the most scariest and scariest alien, I never understood the hate, just people jumping on the bandwagon
I watched it, it was great!
I’m excited to seek this out. There are few things so intoxicatingly interesting as movies that contain greatness but narrowly miss the mark.
As a die hard Alien franchise fan, as are many here, are we going to see a physical disc copy released to those who wish to purchase? I own the Blu-ray version and would love to see and own this labour of love.

This sounds great, but how do you access it?
I tried going through the "official" channel and it seems like a con.
It took me all day to (apparently) download 98% of the file, and then told me I had to upgrade my (nonexistent) account to continue.
I always felt this film was a representation of going through a terminal illness
Fantastic movie, and if it were a trilogy, it would be the perfect ending.
