How Lifestyle Impacts Brain Aging & Dementia With Brain Expert Kimberley Wilson

In this episode of Begin Again, Davina McCall sits down with the brilliant Kimberley Wilson, Chartered Psychologist, brain health expert, and author, for a powerful conversation about the science of the mind, and how we can all take better care of our brains.
Kimberly unpacks the latest research around dementia, and challenges the idea that brain decline is just an inevitable part of aging. Instead, she offers practical, science-backed strategies that put the power back in our hands.
In this honest and enlightening discussion, Kimberly explains why what we eat, how we sleep, how we move — and how we feel — all play a vital role in protecting our minds. She talks candidly about the myths we’ve been told about memory, menopause, and mental wellbeing, and why it’s never too early — or too late — to start caring for our brains.
This is a conversation about ownership, understanding, and the radical potential of prevention. Bringing clarity, calm, and compassion to a topic that affects us all — and her message is as inspiring as it is empowering.

  1. I like what she had to say. It’s all makes sense of sorts. It’s the cognitive dissonance that is always the kick in the teeth. Talking about omega 3 for instance. In their heads they need to eat fish to get omega 3.Just eat the seaweed that fish eat. Cut out the middle man so to speak ( that’s got mercury and plastic remnants in it). But it’s the cruelty that goes with it. You don’t need the fish.

  2. Wow!!! Quite impressive! Loved you, Kimberley Wilson! You'd be an amazing teacher/ professor, being so straight to the point, so, so, so… Genius! ❤ Davina, congrats on another great podcast! You're amazing! ❤ Watching from Portugal with love. Celeste

  3. The brain does very well on ketones. This is especially important in the older person who is insulin resistant in the brain. See the work of Dale Bredesen. Please check him out.

  4. We don’t want big companies/corporations running our lives they’ve done enough damage thank you, just look at the food chain. We will take control… whole foods less chemicals! Great Pod!

  5. What amazes me is this…. Our hearts /minds were created by God for God…
We have been given the word of God for our minds to be meditating on DAILY, many have rejected Him. Jesus is the word of God…
So if we fill our minds with everything but what it is supposed to be filled with ans expect ro function well we have been decieved.

Many are scared worried anxious about all sorts, only Jesus can give snd sustain you with peace

Go and put deisel in a petrol car and visa versa.

We need Jesus to fill our minds with Truth .

  6. Shocking that our government knows a lot of this and is choosing not to act on it preferring to pander to pharmaceutical company's who are only concerned about making money. 😢

  7. Just wanted to add to the section about hearing loss. It would really help if we could reduce the stigma around hearing loss. I am 22, and was born hard of hearing. I've been working on feeling less shame about hearing loss my whole life and now feel more confident about it than I ever have. It is interesting how reducing this stigma could have wider benefits on health, such as dementia :)

  8. Kimberley is spot on, I'm a Naturopathic Nutritionist and 100% agree with everything she's saying! Clinical trials are often funded by the pharmaceutical industry themselves and they will not fund clinical trials into natural health because they don't make money out of it, you cannot patent food, vitamins, minerals..Hence they say 'there is not enough clinical evidence'. This is where the health system is completely broken!

  9. Dr Ornish world renowned, having linked both halting and reversing of heart disease through plant based nutrition, has now proven and published papers connecting halting and improving alzheimers. Again plant based nutrition. Look it up.

  10. Why cant expensive trials be done individually for eg person volunteers at gp takes the vits..the blood tests given to AI to colate under supervision and published….

  11. Ive had hearing aids since age 34… Pregnancy related allegedly… multi factorial….hearing aids are good but not brilliant…and are expensive theres an added mental load if hearing loss isnt uniform on the ranges…

  12. Thanks for the johhny walker reference…❤my mom is gas affected her mom was an alcoholic….I have so many physical signs…simian lines. I'm six foot ..hearing loss and the 'hepcidin' in utero kick-started(by ethanol or alcohol from either blighted spuds or alcohol) my hemochromatosis as both parents were carriers…..foetal alcohol(and drugs) are huge in UK and Ireland it's not all ADHD…AuDHD fasds….it's in utero

  13. I am sorry, but there is tonnes of info re nutrition and brain health, so it's absolutely nothing new. But I guess for people that aren't bothered about taking an interest so far, this will be helpful.

  14. Thank you for your enlightenment! 🙏🙏
Please impart the location of the societies where ageing and women’s wisdom is valued and their menopause symptoms are nonexistent, PLEASE! 🙏😀

  15. So how do you explain the amazing clarity after fasting for a couple of days? I will go with what my body tells me as I have found short term fasting very helpful.. Experts can say many things but trusting the body's feedback is the greatest super power we can acquire.

  16. A lot of useful info here, thank you. I would have liked to have heard about the role of ketosis and ketones for fueling the brain as I have heard many experts (Dr Chris Palmer, Dr Georgia Ede, Dr Eric Westerman etc) advocate a ketogenic diet for good brain health.

  17. The pharmaceutical company have to maintain their cash cow. It’s about the profits that’s why nutrition is not on the forefront. Tantrums in children are being fed medication, introducing boundaries etc is too difficult which then leads to mental health then medication, which is a vicious circle of overall poor health and life outcomes.

  18. Wow 🎉 Enjoyed this interview 😊 & learnt so much about me 😮. Thank you for bringing this topic to the masses. Incredible information! I want to learn more.🌻🌻🌻

  19. the number of people is growing because everyone has now this habit of tea and coffee all the time. listen to Matthew Walker on sleep. during DEEP SLEEP the mind clears the plaque and tau that causes Alzheimer's caffeine prevents the body getting deep sleep its just that siimple. the people in Greece etc in the Blue Zones do not drink caffeine. often it is herbal tea. I have not taken caffeine for 20 years now as I noticed my mum aunt etc who had Alzheimer's loved their tea. I have no memory problems at all

  20. Another fascinating and informative interview. It’s just scandalous that vital health information like this isn’t widely broadcast and deeply disheartening that at the root of it all is money. Thank you for having these conversations so that we can feel more empowered to optimise our own and our families health.

  21. I’m from Australia and we say ‘vitamins’ differently than you folk.
When the lovely Kimberly said that they did a trail with B vitamins, I thought she said ‘beaver twins’ 😂😂😂
Omg I nearly died laughing. Why are they bringing in beavers to the study? How is there a placebo???!!!! What’s going on here????
    Oh, B vitamins.
Lucky I’m watching this show, seriously 😅
