How AI powered robots are helping small farms fight labor shortages
From labor shortages to environmental impacts, farmers are looking to AI to help revolutionize the agriculture industry. One California startup, Farm-ng, is tapping into the power of AI and robotics to perform a wide range of tasks, including seeding, weeding and harvesting.

I bet they have never met an actual farmer. Only CA youtube 'farmers'
๐
I love how it starts with "There aren't enough workers to fill the jobs…" because this isn't taking over any human jobs, just jobs no one wants, then later Jacob says "it got to the point where we couldn't do that anyone more, it's too labor intensive" so what it is? There isn't enough labor, or labor costs too much?
They think there just gonna consolidate all that tech n profit for themselves and not have to distribute that wealth?? Good luck with that geniuses
I Dont See It Completely Replacing Workers, Not Yet At Least…. Idk How I Feel About This, No Body Is Excited About Farm
AI is superstition and illiteracy,
Intelligence can Never be artificial.
Labor shortage?
Labour shortage is the term they're going to use to usher in the AI revolution… someone wasn't willing to work for $10 an hour to do back breaking labour so there's a "labour shortage"… need to replace them with a robot…
Kinda weird that they gave the robot a mexican name. Should have called it Farmiga though
And all these robots will be guided by GEODNET :)
Universal basic income…. They will replace us all. So we can have purpose filled lives. An do what we want with our time. Instead of wasting it for pennies
I was hoping to see machines picking fruit and veges with the robotic tentacle arms like in the matrix, instead it's just a glorified shopping cart.
"All these cool tools to play with" until someone finds a way to hack them or they break down and the manufacturer won't provide the means to repair them.
We need at Myanmar ๐
There is no labor shortage. We have a wage shortage.
What an awesome tech,
Rents in Watsonville are astronomical. Pay humans a reasonable wage to do agricultural work๐๐ผ
The workers are across the border in Mexico.
Replacement of labor so they can save while charging consumers more.
You can pay for robots and say you can not afford too pay treat your employees right got yaa
"But the border!"
Maybe Soon the future of farming are fully automated through ai and machine learning algorithm
Young people in the future will do absolutely nothing robots will do everything for them. Iโm glad I was brought into the world during a time when we do everything manually because if the machines stop working the young people will be lost.
AI can solve all problems except helping a individual to earn living wage, poverty, homelessness, beat inflation, fix crooked politicans and inhuman exploitation of people and environment by big corporation cause government and corporations aren't interested to pay for that.
Low wage in agriculture might be the cause of labor shortage, but the supermarkets say consumers too are not willing to pay a fair price for their food items, so they propose to buy cheaper ftom the farmer. The farmer being a business man too, needs to make a decent living, from his effort. It goes round and round. At least, the AI will not complain of exploitation.
I only pay 5 dollars an hour and then wonders why labor shortages instead I splurge on expensive robots
Its like junk food when they were launched, they were advertised "good"… eventually….
About frikin time. I remember seeing predictions for ag robots in the 1960s that were supposed to be deployed in th 70's.
Being possible is different than being affordable and simple enough
I liked everything about the report except the last comment. A few farmers is his prediction. That's a sad outcome if true.
The future is amazing. We could all learn something from how hard these robots work.
"Farmers like Jacobs don't fear AI replacing people" – of course not, he owns the farm.
You mean 1.6 million illegals so far in America but still no workers wtf
comments are focused on immigration, which is understandable, but small picture: In a few years, robots and ai will be better than humans at most jobs. we won't be worrying about immigration but the entire economy, both in the US and the world at large. hopefully we'll use AI to create abundance for all.
We'll make it! Don't worry, things will work out…
"Come work my farm. I'll award you portions of ownership the longer you stay the more you work." Yeah, right! That's why there's no workers. It's your land, your profits. All I'll get is a barely survivable labor wage.
๐ at all the trades saying if you have a desk job, AI will replace you.
Yes!
โคโคโคโคโคโค the new edge cyber farm
I fail to see how exactly their machines couldn't be made before this AI hype/technology? I just notice these days that a lot of companies will say that their tech is all about AI when in reality it could have been made years ago or that the tech was already a thing before AI.
Labor shortage problem or low paying problem?
What are the 10000 illegal immigrants doing….
They aren't looking for jobs in the field….
Maybe they can Teach the Robots how to Speak English Too…..
Nature can be wonderful if we treated fair. With the population explosion around the world ,means that any any technology that we use hands off means someone is going to be idled . That will lead to chaos.
Only in the USA could we have a simultaneous immigration crisis & a labor crisis…. The problem is lawyers.
How can there be a labor shortage with all the immigrants in the country!
How in the f*ck are there labor shortages with mass immigration
Just let the immigrants in.
