Egypt announces new discoveries at Temple of Hatshepsut in Luxor | ABS-CBN News

Archaeologists have uncovered intact portions of the foundation wall of pharaonic Queen Hatshepsut’s valley temple in Luxor and the nearby tomb of Queen Teti Sheri, grandmother of Ahmose I, the first pharaoh of Egypt’s golden New Kingdom era.

The discovery of more than 1,000 decorated stone blocks on the outskirts of Hatshepsut’s funerary temple above was announced on Wednesday by team leader Zahi Hawass, an Egyptian archaeologist and former minister of antiquities who has been leading excavations at the site since 2022.

The 18th dynasty Queen Hatshepsut, who died in about 1458 B.C., was one of a small handful of women to have ruled Egypt. Her valley temple was intentionally demolished centuries later.

“This is the first time that we discovered, 1,500 decorated blocks, the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever seen in my life with the colour,” Hawass said.
A limestone tablet found at the site bore the name of Hatshepsut’s architect Senmut, who oversaw construction of the temple.

Queen Teti Sheri, whose tomb was found nearby, was grandmother of Ahmose I, who liberated Egypt from the Hyksos peoples who had invaded Egypt from across Sinai to the east. She died in the ninth year of Ahmose’s reign, a century before Hatshepsut’s.

The simple tomb was carved in rock and lay at the end of a mudbrick vaulted chapel with red wall drawings painted on a layer of white mortar.

  1. Hawass needs to be removed, and a new generation of archeologists and scientists should take over. He is a liar and an egomaniac. The stench of corruption and greed follow him wherever he goes.

  2. Good news! Yet when Zahi Hawass is involved, be careful. He is capable of lying to promote tourism and not entirely focus on the real scientific facts of what they found.

  3. Whenever this man gets excited like this it always means something very important and impressive and special has happened. He is such an amazing storyteller, all backed up by all the discoveriesโคโค

  4. I went to Eqypt several years ago, it was on my bucket list as Iโ€™ve always wanted to visit from being a young girl and seeing the exhibition of Tutankhamen in the British Museum in 1972. I visited Luxor and the Valley of the Kings and also the tomb of Hatshepsut. It was a wonderful place to visit and spend time with my son. We went on the Nile River and you can feel the antiquity in the atmosphere of this ancient place. After seeing the beautiful contents of the boy kings tomb I got to visit the tomb itself and was surprised at how small it was. It was so amazing to see.

  5. Doug Petrovich already proved that it was Amenhotep II that defaced Hatshepsut from the afterlife and also Senenmut after the Exodus in 1446 BC. Tutmose III was already dead and he revered his stepmother. Senenmuts biography lines up exactly with what the bible says about Moses.

  6. I don't care if half the shit they find is Egyptian, Nubian and/or some previously unknown civilization people need to get off this it's stripping away their proud history and accomplishments twaddle. The modern day Egyptians that live there right now are for the most part modern, in historical timescales, they have no business about being offended about anything. Just find stuff and do science. Cultures spread, recede, stagnate, interact, merge, it's what people do.

  7. There should be wonderful discoveries every week in egypt. This man is on the payroll of the Hebrew & is hiding ancient history because ancient technology in societies proves the Bible is fake. He needs to be removed and the entire Antiquities Department under investigation

  8. Oddly enough, I'm an Infidel and Mohammed said, "Kill them (Infidels / non-muslims) where you can find them. You can't murder the visiting tourists, yet you just want their money.

  9. I am really confused. If we are looking at new discoveries, then why are we looking at museum cases? If they had time to put this stuff in cases, it's not new. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‘ Not in situ. ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

  10. Just as soon as I saw that person start talking, I turned the video off because heโ€™s done nothing but harm Egyptian archaeology for the past two decades. I really hope to see him out of anything. New discovers an Egypt.
