‘Ebers Papyrus’ is the oldest reference to a condition resembling Diabetes. Ebers Papyrus was an Egyptian Papyrus of herbal knowledge.
Term ‘Diabetes’ was coined by Aretaeus and the term ‘Mellitus’ was coined by Thomas Willis.
Earlier Diabetes was known as ‘Madhumeh’ or ‘Honey urine’ in India.
In 1922 Leonard Thompson a 14 year old with T1DM became the first person to receive Insulin.
In 1923 Frederic Banting and John MacLeod received Noble prize in Physiology or Medicine.
1966 first pancreas transplantation was performed by W D Kelly and Richard Lillehei.
