  1. Itโ€™s interesting that both Romulus and Covenant do a lot of similar things to the original trying to go back to basics and have a small group of characters trapped with the Xenomorph and yet the execution is like night and day. Covenant is a snooze fest with no tension and no real horror everything feels rushed and half baked, but with Romulus itโ€™s incredibly heart racing and full of scares and tension and probably the closest to the original in terms of the energy it gives off.

  2. One of the things I really loved about Romulus is that instead of giving us new things to be in awe of, it focused on making something fresh and interesting with what we already had.

While I feel that many teams would have just made a flashy new type of xeno and made that the focus, Fede and his team gave us the original xenomorph and expanded on it's behavior and life cycle, which I thought was far more interesting than the neomorph or deacon aliens that we got in Prometheus and Covenant.

Another thing I loved about their xeno work, was that they made the xenomorph behave much more in line with what we saw in the original films, which is to say an intelligent and terrifying hunter. In later films they more often than not made the xenomorph act more like an animal or a slasher villain that went straight for the kill every time, no matter the cost. Imo that really took away from one of the things that made the xeno so terrifying, so it was great that they brought back the intelligence.

And as for what little new they did add, I felt was well earned as it had multiple set ups that all came together into a satisfying payoff.

I've seen a lot of back & forth in the fan base between wanting more of the old and wanting more of the new, so overall I'd say this movie did a great job with giving that to both those kinds of fans, all while giving something that I think anyone unfamiliar with Alien could enjoy.

  3. The movie sucked. It was a bunch of young adults repeatedly acting out familiar scenes from Alien and Aliens. There is absolutely no original imagination or heart in this movie at all and you can feel it. The characters are as interesting as cardboard cutouts and their stories and lives are empty and undeveloped. The story is boring. It has no imagination. Oh… and the CGI of a Ash… the main 'bad guy' synthetic from the original alien movie looked like it was done by a junior high schooler or some REALLY REALLY bad AI. The franchise is now officially dead… please let it rest in peace.

  4. This was hands down one of the worst movies Iโ€™ve seen in a long time! The characters were corny and stupid , in the end i guess the half alien half human looked so fake and unrealistic (besides it was already done in an earlier aliens) when she got into the pressurized suit at the end was done before in alien 1 and thatโ€™s just to name a few things , so this movie totally missed the mark. It is by far the worst alien movie of the franchise that has been made so far! Horrible!

  5. The zero gravity scene for me was the worst part of the movie. It was such a good idea but so badly executed it felt like a video game and accomplished nothing in the actual movie.
I felt the call backs were a little too much, I felt including that one CGI character was a terrible decision, and I hate that they keep trying to find the new Ripley.
And you should have been the protagonist of this movie and he would have been one of the best Alien movie protagonists out there, but they just keep trying to find new Ripley and forcing her down our throat underwear scene and all.
Don't get me wrong, I thought this movie was great, and visually spectacular, but it fell flat for me at times.

  6. How did the ship go from manual to auntopilot by itself so many times?? How comes there was a gravity button right at the end of a damn hallway and next to a normal door?
It was an alright movie, scary and nice to the eyes, but movies nowadays really lack good writingโ€ฆ

  7. I liked that they tried to tie stuff we saw in Covenant with the pathogen explanation. But they missed a GOLDEN opportunity to tie Romulus to Aliens. Instead of the third act we got it shoulda just been them going in autopilot into whatever planet Aliens take place and one character turning into the Queen bc of that element
