A Great Introduction to Japanese Sums

Here’s where you can try Power Up! By TheAsylm: https://sudokupad.app/hMpJGmdHJ6
Normal sudoku rules apply. Colors used in this puzzle are Black and Red. For best results, remove all unshaded marking you’ve done once complete. Japanese Sums rules: the squares outside the grid indicate the order of the contiguous runs of cells found in that row or column that must be shaded the color of the clue. The number inside the clue gives the sum of the cells in the run. There must be at least one unshaded cell between runs of the same color, but there is no need between runs of differing colors. All runs are given.

  1. That was confusing: I thought, red is like shaded and grey is like unshaded. So, all in all, I tried to do it with two colours, thinking that a run meant two neighbouring cells in a column or line. Very confusing. And wrong

  2. very frustrating, since midway thru, i could see the picture it wanted me to draw, it fit perfectly, but logically, i wasn't allowed to draw it yet XD

  3. It took me 64:31, but this is the first of this puzzle I've been able to complete so I'm happy with it! I like nonagrams, but this is always much harder because of the variable lengths of each color section.

  4. It took me a second here (@18:46) why the 4 couldn't be on the right.
[I had the 4 in two places in there]
    But I see now .
If a grey cell is below that gray 3 clue, it would have to be a 1or3, so the "grey 4" is on the left.

Immediately, though, that "gray 3" clue can't come down with grey next to the gray 4.
So the "3" is up in the corner in there.

Ramifications for the grey 3 in other words.
    Yay me again ๐Ÿ˜‚

  5. 22:21 finish. With the way the image is squared off, I'd say that it looks most like the mushroom from the US version of Super Mario 2. Love picross, and is always fun to mix it with sudoku. Excellent!
