ZESCO Signs Deal to Develop Solar Energy Projects



China Datang Corporation and ZESCO have signed a collaborative framework agreement to develop solar energy projects across the country.

President Hakainde Hichilema stated that the government is working towards attaining a power generation capacity of 10,000 megawatts to support various economic activities. He emphasized that the government is seeking urgent interventions to address power shortages that have adversely affected economic activities.

President Hichilema made these remarks before witnessing the signing ceremony held at the China Datang Corporation Dispatch Center.

China Datang Corporation Chairperson Zou Lei announced that the company will deliver three solar projects by 2026. He pledged to assist Zambia in the development of wind, solar, coal-powered projects, and power storage, noting that the company has extensive experience in these areas.

ZESCO Managing Director Victor Mapani expressed the company’s willingness to provide upfront financing and invest in power generation.
