Why Trump’s Cuts To NIH Will Be Costly At Home and Abroad
The future holds tremendous promise for scientific research and breakthroughs. AI and other technologies could be truly transformative, but at the same time, dramatic cuts in federal funding and mass layoffs are putting that progress in jeopardy. Dr. Francis Collins helmed the National Institutes of Health for 12 years before he left altogether last March. I can’t think of a better person to help us understand the government’s role in scientific research and the impact the decline in federal support may have from cracking the code for various diseases to drug development to a scientific brain drain.

The antichrist is here. No other reason his destruction can't be stopped. Utube and hurry, no time to study
An excellent interview.
Great interview! Francis is a dear friend of mine. I knew Emily as well, I conducted clinical trials, and in addition, I am a patient at Emily Couric Center. Francis is a stellar human!!!
23:16 exactly. Many people who want to be in science can’t stay there because of education costs and how they can make so much more money in industry.
People need opportunities to get higher degrees. People that do not come from generational wealth. Maybe their GPA is not as high as expected because they had to work multiple jobs the whole time they were in school. There has been a class barrier to higher education for my entire life. People need a hand up and if your generation will give it to us, everything you have spent your lives building will die, and we will all suffer for it. Cancel student loans.
Democrats like Katie will not make drugs available for 80% of us. The past 100 years has proven that. Katie and her Democrat friends want the best drugs and hormones. But only for themselves. They have actively kept them from 80 percent of all women. Because Katie doesn't care about 80 percent of us. She only pretends. She cares about the 1%. In which she is part of.
As a retired physicist, the word that I am hearing is that graduate students are being told to leave the country because of these cutbacks.
The current administration is causing a massive brain drain of highly talented scientists and engineers to move to a different country.
This government is killing our future.
Another excellent and important video. Thank you.
Where will the defunding of NIH savings go? Tax cuts for the ultra rich, and Trumps soveriegn wealth personal embezzlement fund. The savings will be wasted.
Had an arguement with my SO about this very thing and she thinks everything will be fine….
Her ignorance knows no bounds.
And No. Its not time to reach out.
They dont want to listen.

Call me nuts but I don’t mind my tax dollars going towards cancer, dementia, heart disease, etc.
Dr. Collins spoke calmly and explained why the cuts to the NIH are so detrimental to all of us. Hopefully many will take the time to watch this interview. Thanks for all you do Katie! We need you so much in these scary times.
Dear Katie, I appreciate the work you are doing so much. I love your guests. We will keep on fighting the good fight ❤️🩹

He was awesome!
Wow. Thank you for another thoughtful & informative interview. Dr. Francis Collins was so interesting to listen to. I feel like I came away more aware of what NIH does and the incredible need to use US dollars to keep the scientific echo system alive. I’m calling my representatives today to voice my opinion!!
We need to fund the NIH!
