  1. If an electric truck costs twice as much as a diesel truck, would it be important to let the truck work more hours per day?

    Grok
The question of whether it is necessary to allow an electric truck to work more hours per day compared to a diesel truck to justify the higher purchase cost depends on several factors:

Operating costs: Electric trucks generally have lower operating costs per kilometer compared to diesel trucks. This includes both fuel costs (electric vs diesel) and maintenance costs, as electric motors have fewer moving parts and thus less need for service.
Investment return: Although the purchase price of an electric truck may be twice as much, the lower cost per kilometer and potentially lower maintenance costs can quickly reduce the difference in total cost over time. If the truck works more hours per day, this can accelerate the payback time for the initial investment.

Productivity and Use: If the truck is used more intensively, it can also mean that it generates more revenue or saves more in operating costs, making it more economically beneficial to have a more expensive vehicle. This is particularly relevant if the truck can operate during times when other vehicles may not, such as at night or in areas with fossil fuel restrictions.

Environmental and Regulatory Factors: In some regions, there are incentives or requirements for switching to electric vehicles, such as subsidies, tax breaks, or access to certain roads or zones for electric cars only. These factors can also influence the decision to use the truck more intensively.

Lifespan and Residual Value: Electric vehicles may have a different lifespan and residual value compared to diesel-powered vehicles. If EVs prove to have a longer economic life or hold their value better, this could also influence the decision to maximize their use.

In summary, if an electric truck costs twice as much as a diesel truck, it may be important to maximize its working hours per day to:

Faster repayment of the higher purchase cost.
Benefit from lower operating costs per kilometer.
    Maximize revenue or cost savings.
Adapt to environmental regulations and take advantage of possible financial incentives.

However, it is important to consider the entire cost structure, including charging infrastructure, potential productivity losses during charging, and other operational factors before deciding to increase the working hours of an electric truck.

  2. Im a canadian trucker with 20+ yrs experience. I do long haul between the usa and canada.
My average trips are 5000 to 6000km a week.
Electric trucks do work quite well for local work and short distances.
For now diesels are the only way for long distances but someday that will change.
But the charger network will need to be in place first.

    Cool video. I enjoyed it

  3. I never believe those green gas or diesel stickers. Say you have 10% bio-something and 90% diesel, then I don’t think it’s bio. It’s just diesel with some greenwashing mixed in.
