The Entire History of AI, Robots, and Synthetic Life

The idea of creating artificial intelligence isn’t as new as you probably think. In this final video—combining all the episodes in my series on the history of AI, robotics, and synthetic life—we’ll trace humanity’s pursuit of thinking machines from ancient myths all the way to modern technology. We’ll start with legendary automata like Talos in Greek mythology, move through Renaissance mechanical marvels and early 19th century literature like Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, then examine milestone inventions such as Elektro the Moto-Man and Shakey the robot. Finally, we’ll explore the rapid advancements from the 1970s onward, touching on pop culture icons like The Terminator, groundbreaking robots like ASIMO, household AI like the Roomba, and powerful modern systems like ChatGPT.

Join me for this comprehensive journey through time and technology as we uncover the deep historical roots of AI—and see how humanity’s quest to create intelligent machines has transformed our understanding of both intelligence and what it means to be human.
