Basically, there's a thing called thermal forcing that occurs from daytime solar heating. With the drop in temperature during the eclipse, thermal circulation begins to collapse as the boundary layer will begin to stabilize. Sudden changes in pressure can occur and the sudden change over a large area will also change how winds behave. Sometimes even at 180⁰. In this case it's going to follow the path of the eclipse since that's where the change occurred and the order it occurred.
