  1. The effective difference in performance if you had a solar panel as big as the small roof surface would be next to worthless. Solar charging is a direct function of surface area. It might be Orth it if you were charging a small battery pack to power your gadgets but it wouldn't extend the life of your car for more than a few minutes. The best option for you is to get a large lightweight foldout solar array for charging an external battery when you're parked. Trust me, I'm an engineer 😉

  2. Next video: "OK, the solar panel didn't work. Watch as I add four alternators to my Telsa, one at each wheel"
Next next video: "OK, the additional alternators didn't work. Now watch as I install some wind turbines"

  3. actually they did investigate it and came to the conclusion it's not worth it. when you have a little knowledge about pv you would know it doesn't make sense to have them. rather take a generator if you really need it.

  4. They already made back in 2002, to see if it could get their car across the desert powered by retail store batteries, ALOT of them. Better question is why would they do something that has you stopping at their stations less often?

  5. One regular household solar panel can generate max 400 watts per hour when placed optimal on a sunny day. Do the math and come to the conclusion it's not worth it. Placing them on a roof rack will hurt your aerodynamics more than the panel will make up for it.

  6. There are foldable solar panels that you can charge a small power station with. Sometimes you don't want the car in the sun. With the solar panels that you can set up on a table or on the ground, you can charge your devices independent of where you've parked the car.

For less than $400 you can get both. You can use this setup in tandem with the Tesla outlets and it's portable, so you can use it with another vehicle.

You'd be surprised how much power you can get from a small setup.

  7. You had me hooked buddy, till I saw the Tesla. Love Elon but this isn't it. It's not a road trip car. You can't run anything without killing your range. You'll be stopping every few hrs to charge.. for a few hrs. Or paying more for a super charge, than a tank of gas.
