  1. So a cash buyer dealing directly with an EPC should see lower prices, all else being equal (reputable installer, similar quality materials, etc.). Peace – John

  2. Any Products that price cuts and cheaper is A Very Good News for Consumers. Don't they.???
Does USA prefer EXPENSIVE products vs cheaper alternatives???
    Only Fools………..

  3. This is a VERY Good description of just how EVERY "ENERGY BENEFIT" company failure happens. In a healthy and competitive market for ANY product changes in the material cost do have a direct reflection on the installed cost. This is actually a fundamental of all business. Over the past 50 years I have watched every "ENERGY" push do this exact same thing!!! Roof hot water systems, Original solar systems, Wind turbines, and now this second huge wave of solar panels. Firs. t the description of the Sales companies/installation companies is a typical practice of the Construction industry. A "General Contractor" develops the relationships and sales AND they take a very substantial "finders fee" up front. They then have "partner companies" that do the work. These "Partners" change constantly and very greatly in quality and skill levels.. Once a project is sold the only focus of the GC is to get the project installed for the estimated cost or less (usually less which is profit for GC NOT "partner"). From this point everything goes off the rails as the Customer never really has the ability to get warranty and support. GC counts on getting to the point that the install is paid off b the bank and they run with the money. With a VERY large percentage of the Solar market this is true. Add the fact that the "Solar" company needs 50% up front for materials and project start up tells you the company is not solvent from the beginning. Part of the 50% is the Sales fee to get the project in the first place. Part is to cover the costs from the last project that ran over…. Margins in construction are usually in the 10 – 15% range for a healthy and competitive construction market working with financially grounded General contractors with first class crews NOT "Partners". The contracting described is what you get when the government offers "rebates for energy". Start up companies with a cashflow to cover sales only. To even begin a project they need financing so they use your financing and stretch your interest rate by pulling YOUR money instead of theirs to do the work!!! They can even walk ("Bankrupt") in the middle of the project leaving you and the bank o the hook. This is also how they operate a zero capitol company and the corruption and fraud begins. Over time the industry ends up doing several resets as the fraud and corruption spiral out of control and the energy industry will collapse for a decade or so. Do solar on a cash only basis, get your own loan, and NEVER get sucked into these solar scam operations!!!

  4. I had my solar system installed in 2019 by Sun Badger in Wisconsin and they have gone out of business. Three of my panels are underproducing. I talked to Enphase directly and they say that two of them are “within 10%” and the third is reporting an issue with the panel itself. A local third party servicer wants $250 just to visit the house so I’m left to try and get help from the panel manufacturer myself.

  5. Hi Joe. Have you also seen retailers of solar panels drop their pricing?

I invested in some solar panel companies and the stock prices have been horrible for more than two years. It feels like the commoditization of solar has been its own enemy. Maybe at some point soon, regulations in California will require solar not just on new homes but on existing ones too. That would really flip the switch back on for mass solar coverage.

  6. Solar "installers/companies" have been robbing homeowners for years and the chickens have come home to roost.

Glad to see this racket coming to an end.

Be smart – learn what you can and install it yourself. Higher a local electrician to assist.

Save yourself the hassle of pressure sales and unfulfilled promises. If they say it will cost $70K or higher you can do it for less than $30K – probably closer to $25K before the tax incentives. After tax incentives your are probably looking at around $15K to $18K.

  7. The solar panels here: BiFacial Q-cells. each is 218+ tax. 485w by itself. with back panel it could get upto 525 Watts. I am glad I got 6 more at that price and no more worry about not enough energy during cloudy dayssss. Yes, those days made me worried I get black out…. Winter. I worry more…. just run for home, not to charge my Tesla Y… take care…

  8. The BiFacial 480-525 watts here in USA sell. in Viet Nam it's only 50-55 USD from Retailer hahaha… They made in Viet Nam. not china. The installer sell that to Consumer that price and offer installed. I am Not sure how much they charge labor. But sure it's cheap too. But First they have to Reinforce their CarPort to support the heavy weigh of the Solar panellsssss.
If you guys think about buy Aptera, please use my code/link… Thanks so very much… I can share reward with you too…

  9. Your best bet with solar is not grid tying but allowing pass through for supplement or ESS. %of tax credit went up but buy back was cut in half. That completely killed the incentives. Not to mention the costs with permits, roof replacements and now insurance companies dropping home owners. And, there are so many wall plug ground deploy kits that will completely eliminate your light bill and they just plug in to the gfci outlet of your home.
We live in a small county so luckily When we Solar up our house, I’ll just install a separate panel for critical loads and power main loads for the house via a subpanel.

  10. Tech products are SUPPOSED to get cheaper as they are mass-produced. That's always been good news for the consumer. This is what free markets are all about. But if panels cost half of what they did last year, I don't, see how 15% interest rates would keep installation costs the same as then. That math aint mathing.

  11. Genuine questions here, with more solar getting into the grid than ever before, population of the country not growing, and birthrate steadily going down. Why is the cost of electric going up? Also why has the cost of solar not gone down? Door knockers in my area are quoting numbers like 40k to get a system with no battery back up.

  12. Seems like getting off the grid completely…. having the utility unhook you… is the best route if you can.
Then you don't have to deal with the super high utility bills that are coming because the govt is mandating that utilities expand and fortify their grids. Guess who pays for that and the markup that the utility will slap on?

  13. The govt should forget expanding the grid and instead focus on super low financing costs for the installers with warranties to customers if their contractor should go out of business.
By massively scaling up home systems, there should be less overall load on the grid not more. No need to upgrade or expand it in most circumstances then.
Apartment buildings should have zero interest loans also to install solar everywhere in their buildings and grounds.
We really need to get serious. I for one am fine with high quality Chinese panels taking over the market…. it's called capitalism…. something the US has forgotten about. The highest quality product at the lowest price should ALWAYS win… no matter from where or even if subsidized. Instead of whining the US should be equally subsidizing our own solar manufacturers to become competitive. If they can't be competitive even with that help then so be it. That's how REAL capitalism works.

  14. I hear this every few months for years, yet here in Canada, prices are still out od control. Who cares what prices are if individual governments have import tarrifs on them. Chinese panels have been available for $0.25/watt for several years. In camada we have a 268% tax on imported panels

  15. California's NEM 3 caused my solar installation company to lay off half the company. So much for green jobs.
They finally bribed the right people to get NEM 3. It makes me sick to my stomach.

  16. Many do not want solar on their roof. But a ground mount requires an engineering stamp. The government should already have approved 140 mph standard ground mounts that dont require the city to get involved. If you have a knowledgeable person install it, then all you need is a qualified electrician. That would really help solar. And no requirements to tie into the grid. Just run minisplit air conditions. Remove city permits and watch many people get solar.

  17. Good info. We went with solar and batteries in 2020. We paid for it upfront and were able to get a good deal because of no financing. Based on the info in this video it sounds like this was a good idea.

  18. That's why I think that you should install solar yourself (especially, ground mounted if you have the space), or try to get someone near you that has done it themselves to do it for you or at least help you out for a fee. Buying the equipment is much, much cheaper if you buy it yourself (so you can afford to stay away from financing it), and then deal with the installation later.

Just make sure you see as many online videos on how to do it safely as you can. I'm talking about watching hundreds of such videos, including how to get permits. When connecting it to your panel, you can always get a qualified, reasonable electrician to do that last step.

You can start with a very small, cheap ground mounted system just to learn, and then scale it up later after you have learned all you could with hands-on training, if you will. Just spend the extra money and get a much higher power inverter than needed so it can handle the extra power later.

  19. Basically that end bit just sounds like the solar companies doing well are using a proper business model not just trying to fast track and bandwagon onto the new industry but are still adapting to it and keeping operations realistic and stable.

  20. 6:48 Or, they could just not dive so hard in thinking to make quick profits. Slow their attempts to scale the business and be stable enough that month to month fluctuations doesn't totally tank their business model.

  21. Sadly, most of the way "solar is sold" — is to sell you a loan or a lease. The panels and other equipment are more of a means to an end, which is absolutely abhorrent and might be the death of the industry. DIY with cash out of pocket is a much better alternative, if that's the kind of installer you're dealing with, and far too many of them are exactly that.

  22. Good content – solar companies are to be blamed for inflated installation costs and greed to profit off small time ignorant customers. Glad to hear they r going bankrupt- only big players should be allowed to operate. Otherwise off grid off shelf installation is the best option

  23. Waiting for PTO is so obviously a scam from the financial companies. Everyone in the business or those getting them setup all know it can take forever in the US to get a solar system up and running, especially the part of connecting it to the grid. Combine that with them most likely giving the loans to cover the cash flow and the exorbitant fees and you basically have a full greed model.

  24. Because we are fucking broke – where are you? Everyone would buy solar panels if they could – EVERYONE. The cost has gone down because they are now cheaper because of production refinement. The higher costs to end users are coming from ripp-off artists like you. You are a con artist sir.

  25. Very nice, let me go check the panel prices iny area for all these killer deals… Oh wait, they are still as expensive as ever.

Where are all the 50% off deals? Yeah, eaten up by middle men.

  26. The construction industry is a clusterf##k, full of chaos in most realms. Solar is trying to (mostly) merge and prosper within this construction realm (lawsuits, existing conditions, overlapping specialities, etc).

  27. Yes sir I'm in California and my solar company went out of business right after install. So I had to start making payments on a system they didnt finish installing. I lucked out because when my loan company found out about the bankruptcy they covered the cost to finish the installation, saving me thousands 🙏
