Robots Could Replace Retail Jobs After the Pandemic is Over

Robots stepping in to help perform tasks normally done by humans can help people maintain social distancing as coronavirus lockdowns start to ease around the world, but their integration can also replace vital jobs in industries like retail.

Robots are a good solution to preventing the spread of Covid-19. However McKinsey’s Michael Chui says there is a set of trade-offs, with some real benefits automation also has the risk of having a negative impact on economies.

Robots doing jobs instead of people can have the consequence of replacing working positions permanently. Stores like Walmart already had machines taking inventory, cleaning and stocking shelves, so the pandemic risks exacerbating these automation processes.

  1. I would love to have an automated society where jobs nobody wants to do are done by machines and people can use their time as they please the only problem would be making sure people are taken care of because let's face it most people only work to put food on the table they don't really like their job or the company they work for and as we're well aware corporations see people as an expendable asset and could care less about them even though their workers and consumers make them unimaginably wealthy

  2. You walk into a store full of robots and you are attacked by a robot so you yell for help but there is nobody around so the robot that is stabbing you calls paramedics and more robots arrive to help clean up the mess……..
