How China's New Electric Plasma Jet Engine is uncovered

Uncovering China’s New Electric Plasma Jet Engine 1
Engineers at a Chinese university unveils a new electric plasma jet engine.

Commercial jet flight is responsible for 12% of CO2 emissions from all transports sources, which doesn’t sound all that much, but is a serious amount in the grand scheme of things. Especially when you take global warming into account and the rate at which it is changing our climate.

As we know, drastic change needs to be implemented in the transportation industry, such as the automotive and aviation industries. However, this all takes time, research and development – and huge costs.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel. Fully electric cars seemed completely out of reach just a few short years ago, now they are threatening traditional combustion engines, and similar technology might influence the aviation industry soon as well.

Electric aviation technology is being taken seriously, however, the current issue is producing electric alternatives that deliver the same, if not better, thrust to consumption ratios to combustion, at the same cost. But, engineers in China have possibly found a solution that is not necessarily fully electric, but rather creating thrust by the help of plasma technology.
