Austin Mini Mk1 – WHERE’D IT GO? & other Welsh car finds
A chance discovery of an Austin Mini Mk1 maaannny years ago almost led me to becoming a classic Mini owner.
In this video I head back to the 1980s and 1990s and talk about several lucky classic car finds in a small village in Wales, all on separate occasions within a few hundred yards of each other. I’m particularly curious about the classic Austin Mini Mk1 though, where is it now? what happened to it? does it survive? lots of questions but very few answers. The then-owner was sentimentally-attached to it so I doubt it was just scrapped, even all those years ago a 1964 Austin Mini Mk1 was a fairly rare find, especially a proper “garage find” like this one.
Two other “finds” in the same village I did manage to secure, a Ford Thames E83W pickup (reg. NCA 129), and a £50 Volvo 121 “Amazon” saloon (YKA 750J). But what happened to the Mini?
Thanks for checking out this upload to the Old Classic Car channel, if you know any more about this classic Mini, please pop a note in the comments section.
Have you missed out on an interesting barn find, or garage find, classic like this one?

If there are any petrolheads that you know that might find this kind of thing interesting, please pass on one of these links, thanks!
Reminds me of the Mini subframe rot. And following "crabbing" Minis that had been bent.
The more the merrier 😊
Very interesting hope you find out what happened to it cheers
I remember my Dads 1960 Austin 7. Gray with a Red roof he bought in 1965 UJG 507 he drove that thing everywhere & loved it. He was not a car person and it kinda rotted away around him. It did make it around the clock and he was so excited when it hit 00000.0 on the clock, he did sell it when the MOT repairs became to much and about 2 years later i saw the poor thing on its side in a scrap yard. So many memories.
I take it the Austin Mini mentioned came after but the same model as the Austin 7 mini.
Love this type of videos. Personal historic memories. Let’s hope it survives, it looked a bobby dazzler.
Very much enjoyed this video. Richard, it's interesting to hear about other people's old acquisition stories. Kind of makes you relive your own too. Please do retell the story of the red spitfire. I would love to hear that. Coincidentally, now we can see where Harley got his good looks when we see those pictures of you as a youngster!
Interesting video – more please! Have you contacted any Austin owner clubs out there who might have some information?
A very interesting video with the story of the Mini. It would be nice to think that the car is in good hands and maybe it will pop up somewhere in the UK? Though not perhaps a stereotypical story you do find owners of such vehicles very reluctant to sell only for the car to end up in the scrapyard! As I say let's hope that is not the case. Thanks Rick for the post and more stories like this would be welcome. 👍👍
Ah Richard . You'd better treat yourself to a bar of chocolate !!!!!😊
Yes, more please! I like the Jaguar tow car for the small truck, by the way. I wouldn't mind some stories on the many cars (and trucks) you have owned over the years. I know we can dive into the OCC crypt and see a few, but looking back and doing a short story on the cars you have owned, loved, hated, scrapped would be interesting to me. Every vehicle has a story behind it.
It's a case of "Where for art thou Mini?"Let's hope it still exists,in ,at least, reasonable condition.
Please do a story on your Spitfire. My first new car was a 1974 Spitfire 1500 so I still have a soft spot for Triumphs.
I for one would like you to tell the story of rescuing the red Triumph Spitfire. I enjoyed this more story based video accompanied by props and old photographs – thank you for going the extra mile as they say.
Fingers crossed – good luck!
Got to hope that mini still exists
Have it in a heartbeat
Many happy miles behind an A series powered Mini
Sadly have not had a Mini since the late 90s
But I did get to work on a Austin a35 recently and managed a little drive for a A series fix 😊
Really like this video! I’m a British car fan in North Carolina with a TR6 and MM convertible. I do always get a chuckle when I hear the word sat used when we would say sitting. Love it!
An interesting video. More like this please. Thanks.
Hi Rick – that was interesting. Let's hope that Mini went on to become roadworthy again – somebody out there must know what happened to it. Please do more videos like this – I found it fascinating. Thanks – take care 🙂
