  1. I dunno. This just looks clean and updated. The first time i saw this was on VHS in 1986. That was 480p lol. I personally hate how everything looks like it was shot on Sony – straight to Netflix. – that plastic, sterile look.

But that’s just because i grew up with grain and all that character from film. Watch how grainy the opening sequence of Top Gun 1986 looks on the flight deck.. it’s nuts.

Fun fact though, just about all of those directors would’ve given a left nut for the movies we love to look as clean as they can now.

  2. Least worst way to watch Aliens at home is with the old Bluray, and to manually colour correct the tint on your television as best you can. The 4k edge enhancement or "fringing" is harsh on the eyes.

  3. I don't know if you have the 4k version since it is difficult to find but I would love a comparison since there is nowhere between punch drunk love (criterion bd) vs 4k

  4. Rien que d'avoir gardé ce titre français sur le 4k. Aliens, le retour, il était parti, le revoilà. Cameron nous refait le même coup qu'avec Terminator 2 : un lissage un peu abusif.

  5. I am unsettled by the amount of tampering with these releases. On the one hand, I can understand people buying them after so long waiting for these films to be released, but on the other hand, a slippery path has been set for future mainstream 4K UHD releases.

The popularity of these releases will only promote this technology to be applied to other releases down the road. Cameron wanted to apply A.I. tools to these releases, and in doing so, sets precedent for others to follow in the future. I view this as a beta test to move A.I. technology further into the conscious minds of people, and then say the technology aids restoration of the transfer. Aliens and True Lies both look unnatural, and the cosmetic look feels cold and non-film. All these films come from a time when film existed physically. The grain level is non-existent on Aliens. With very little present.

I'm not after over saturation of grain, but this new 4K transfer looks artificial. True Lies is a mess. But I see others on YT trying hard to say that True Lies isn't as bad as its been made out to be. That is a blatant overstatement.

I suppose the film industry don't want to rock the boat, and mainstream reviewers would rather play ball and play along with a regressive step back in film restoration with A.I. application leading the charge. This is a devisive technology in my eyes.

  6. Only highlights that the Blu-ray was still a great way to watch this movie (which is what this 4K was based off of). I'll get this when the price drops – the Atmos is still worth it and the AI refresh isn't so terrible that it breaks the experience for me. If you put this on without telling me what it was, I'd probably have a hard time even noticing this was the 4K. And let's face it, this is the last time we'll see this movie addressed in any way. Its last go-round on physical media for sure. Cameron won't be touching this one again. The last word, for better or worse.

  7. Sorry if this is a daft question. But the normal blu ray that also comes with this 4k blu ray, has that been messed about with too? Or will that just be the original blu ray version?

  8. the disney/cameron shills in these comments are insane. be happy and buy it then, but why criticise the right to criticism? very weird, it`s not a religion. when it flops in the numbers it should have made, astronomical, read why.
