Rescuing a Rare Forgotten BMW M Car – Will it Run? One of 786 ever made, Jonny Smith visits this classic BMW survivor garaged for 20 years in Oxford. He brings his expert friend Tony BMW (the inventor of the sacred Can of Hope fuel tank) to find out the back story, try to fire up this homologation special and give it the first clean in decades.

  1. well an interesting 15 minutes watching the work on the car (after 19 minutes of waffle…) – then another fascinating hour reading the true story emerging in the comments – thanks guys!

  2. Shame it was mostly BS. I've built a lot of S14 engines in my day. I have been working on these since they were new. Got one sat in my garage that is used for trackdays only.

  3. Come on the garage isn’t even 10 years old lol.
And please, stop calling every BMW a Homologation special because it simply isn’t.
The owner is a perfect actor and storyteller lol. Everything he days needs to be looked at with a kilo of salt lol.
    Cheers.

  4. Jonny, i recently sold my E36 convertible due to it having a lot of electrical issues from a roof leak being outside for 4 years, it was my pride and joy, and it nearly killed me having to part part with it, I'd owned it for 20 year's it needed a bit of work but im afraid i just couldn't afford to repair it! What im getting at is they get under your skin them cars and no matter what people say on here about him being fake, hes a hell of a lucky guy to own that car.

  5. Sad to read about the discrepancies in the back story here and Jonny apparently being taken in. As one of my German business contacts used to say: "Vertrauen ist gut, Kontrolle ist besser". (Trust is good, checking is better.)

  6. I bought my 1st Golf Rallye in 1998 for £6700 from independent motor co in stocks barn near Reading

He had a literal sea of Lancia Deltas and E30 M3’s when i picked it up

  7. In 1990 I was heartbroken to have to sell my 1986 RS500 Cosworth due to astronomical unaffordable insurance for a 19 year old
I went to the cauliflower pub in Ilford to watch my mate playing in his band and on the way out I walked past a car dealer next-door and there was a 1986 M535I in white in the window – I was mesmerised & I went back the next day and bought it ~ only had the car for 6 months, but what a car
Wish I was in a position and had the hindsight to keep some of the cars I’ve had – I would be a millionaire now!
