NTSB Drops SHOCKING Findings Philadelphia Medjet Crash

NTSB investigators have recovered the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) of the Learjet 55 located at the initial impact site, at a depth of 8 feet.โ€‹ NTSB investigators also recovered the airplane’s enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS), which could also contain flight data. Both components will be sent to the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Laboratory in Washington, DC for evaluation.

NTSB investigators have recovered both engines. Wreckage recovery continues. The wreckage will be sent to a secure location in Delaware for further examination.

NTSB investigators have obtained surveillance videos of the crash and numerous witness statements.

The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 129 air ambulance flight.

Preliminary ADS-B flight track data obtained from the Federal Aviation Administration revealed that the flight departed runway 24 at Northeast Philadelphia Airport (PNE), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, about 1806, with the intended destination of Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF), Springfield, Missouri. The airplane proceeded to the southwest before it turned right slightly and then entered a gradual left turn. The airplane continued in the left turn and reached an altitude of 1,650 ft mean sea level (airport elevation was 119 ft). The track data ended at 1807, at 1,275 ft msl, and at 242 knots ground speed. The duration of the flight was
about 1 minute.

The airplane initially impacted a concrete sidewalk in a residential and commercial area. Security camera videos depicted a large explosion associated with the initial impact. The wreckage debris field was about 1,410 ft in length and 840 ft wide, oriented on a magnetic heading of about 150ยฐ. The airplane impacted a commercial sign during its descent, and the
calculated descent angle based on the height of the observed damage to the sign was about 22ยฐ.

The airplane was equipped with a cockpit voice recorder (CVR). The CVR was recovered from the initial impact crater under 8 ft of soil and debris and was sent to the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Laboratory, Washington, DC, for processing and readout. The recorder displayed significant impact-related damage as well as liquid ingress. After extensive repair and cleaning, the 30-minute-long tape-based recording medium was auditioned to determine its
contents. The CVR did not record the accident flight, and during the audition it was determined that the CVR had likely not been recording audio for several years.

  1. If you are watching this video note the size of the hole, if you have ever been to the Flight 93 Memorial this hole in ground looks be be the same size as the hole in SHANKSVILLE, where supposedly the passenger jet went into the ground, questions anyone? HMMM!

  2. I think the rain was a factor by way of people having wet footwear and wet floor. Just after liftoff, someone could have stood up and entered the cabin to ask something but slipped and fell forward causing this in a very fast descent.

  3. I think you may be on to something here, attributing a potentially sinister explanation. There were multiple initial accounts of the aircraft already in flames prior to impact. I think there's a likely possibility of cartel involvement in this mishap. Possibly stemming from a "dual use scenario" involving the airplane.

  4. former avionics tech here, back in the late 80's I used to do routine maintenance on flight data recorders at a smaller charter biz jet company…for the FDR all we did was replace the tin foil scroll . That all you could do. The jets we had did not have CVRs. .I think for the CVR there is no actual way to test if its actually recording unless it is being done at the manufacturer or certified shop. You would need a complex test jig to hook it up to.

  5. Medical Air Ambulances charge enough money for the transport that it should not be any problem making the CVR is in working order. Given the nature of their job they should be under more scrutiny.

  6. Remember the ads altitudes are given as above sea level not above the ground level. PNE field elevation is 120โ€™ MSL so you have to consider that when looking at the altitudes

  7. Please bear with, Iโ€™m no expert by any means. Is it possible that the pilot had a medical incident, collapsing onto the flight controls? The copilot spent a couple of seconds trying to get him sat back up, by which time all was lost? This is just a decorators take on it.

  8. High velocity crash. Looks like nearly all devris at point of empact was coffee canned/ vaporized. No wonder the blacl boxes were so damaged on recovery. Seems like a rapid mid flight break up. Possibly trim ripping off etc.

  9. No one checked it for years? Wow. Inactive for years. Hmm. The pilots of other ones said Medivac planes not maintained well. Wow. I thought the opposite as well. I didnโ€™t know that. It just took off. I was thinking stall. I canโ€™t believe no CVR. I donโ€™t think stall anymore because it didnโ€™t come flat down. WTH happened? How can pilots be disoriented that fast after takeoff?

  10. I remember hearing someone speculated that the patient gurney had not been locked down and suddenly rolled out of place upon takeoff, creating an imbalance of the air ambulance. Makes sense. Is that a possibility?

  11. A maintenance audit needs to happen for that company before they fly any more planes in US airspace and heavy fines are issued for having a black box not in operation for several years. A plane nose diving like that is nearly impossible for that to be pilot disorientation. You can feel the change in gravity when diving that fast. I suspect something worse happened that might have taken everyone out in the cockpit before it went into that high speed dive.

  12. Aircraft undergo numerous inspections some based on Calendar, some hours flown and others based on takeoff & landing cycles. Among the items checked is the CVR if installed. If it's been inoperative for years, then they have some pretty big issues. The tape will generally retain the last 30 minutes of audio when power to the unit was lost or removed. As you speculated, they can correlate the audio heard with the flight logs of the aircraft and make a determination of when the recording was done.

  13. As soon as I saw your first video and that this plane came from Mexico, it reminded me of Lockerbie Scottland plane explosion. Has a plane bomb been ruled out?

  14. Pilot disorientation in clouds must have been due to a malfunction of their instruments which would have shown them their proper altitude. Is that considered the cause then, due to the poor maintenance of medical ambulance planes?
