In 1895, German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen was experimenting with cathode rays when he noticed something unusual. Despite covering the tube to block the rays, he saw a glow on a nearby screen. Curious, Roentgen placed his hand between the tube and the screen—and to his amazement, the shadow of his bones appeared. He had just discovered X-rays by accident.
