Scientists from Cambridge University have made an astonishing discovery on K2-18b, a distant exoplanet located 124 light-years from Earth. Using the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), they detected chemical biosignatures—DMS and DMDS—that are linked to microorganisms on Earth.

K2-18b is a mini-Neptune orbiting a red dwarf star in the habitable zone, where liquid water might exist.
Concentrations of DMS and DMDS were found to be thousands of times higher than on Earth.
