Hello friends! I am Prabhakar Kumar, welcome to my YouTube channel. Have you ever wondered that everything in this universe is made up of small particles? Today we will know what a proton is, how it was formed and who discovered it.
Formation and origin of proton
The proton is a positively charged particle (+1 charge), which is found in the nucleus of every atom. It originated in the early stages of the universe, when subatomic particles were formed from excessive energy after the Big Bang.
➡ When quarks and gluons came together, they formed protons and neutrons.
➡ These particles are bound by strong nuclear force.
This means that the proton is one of the oldest and most stable particles in the universe!

Now the question arises – who discovered the proton?
In 1917, the great scientist Ernest Rutherford conducted a historic experiment.
➡ He bombarded nitrogen gas with alpha particles.
➡ In this process, hydrogen nuclei (i.e. protons) came out.
➡ Then he concluded that proton is a fundamental particle present in the nucleus of the atom.
Rutherford’s experiment means that proton is the particle from which the entire nucleus of hydrogen is formed!
Importance of Proton
Without protons, there would be no atoms, nor our universe!
➡ It keeps the atomic structure stable.
➡ It forms the elements necessary for life.
➡ It is also used in nuclear energy, medicine and science.
Did you know that…?
➡ The lifespan of a proton is almost infinite!
➡ It moves faster than light when it is put into a particle accelerator!
