Consecutive patients hospitalized

Four hospitals in Florida

Confirmed COVID-19

March 15 and May 11, 2020

Treated with or without ivermectin

Primary outcome

All-cause in-hospital mortality

Secondary outcomes, mortality in patients with severe pulmonary involvement, extubation rates for mechanically ventilated patients, length of stay

Severe pulmonary involvement

Need for Fio2 ≥ 50%, noninvasive ventilation

Invasive ventilation

Results from reviews

N = 280

Ivermectin treated = 173

Overall mortality 15%

Mortality with severe pulmonary involvement = 38.8%

Not given ivermectin = 107

Overall mortality 25% (OR, 0.52)

Mortality with severe pulmonary involvement = 80.7%

No significant differences were found in extubation rates or length of stay

Most patients in both groups also received hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, or both

Ivermectin treatment was associated with lower mortality during treatment of COVID-19

Especially in patients with severe pulmonary involvement

Randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings

  1. Good morning from New Zealand, COVID19 is a virus that can cause a secondary infection in the lungs due to streptococcus bacteria that some people have in their body. If it goes to the lungs and causes a lung infection and the doctors don't treat it antibiotics, sepsis sets in and people die…and that's what is happening, doctors don't treat it accordingly because the word is, COVID19 is a virus and antibiotics don't work

  3. I'm a big fan of yours Dr Campbell but I do think you should give this Clinical Care alliance group a bit more credit. This, as I understand it, is a group of doctors who are in charge of widespread clinical care units with outstandingly GOOD Covid 19 mortality rates, who have got together to disseminate information on protocols that actually WORK in the REAL world. Whilst recognising that clinical trials are needed, they also realise that these take time, and in the meantime, patients have to be treated and lives have to be saved NOW. Pragmatism is important when understanding of the disease is still limited.
